We are proud to announce this quarter’s ‘Awards for a Cause’ charity – Habitat for Humanity of East King County. Each quarter, Trophies2Go.com chooses a charity or cause to rally behind. This quarter we are doing so by featuring several products and donating a set amount per item sold to Habitat for Humanity. To view these products, click http://www.trophies2go.com/charities. In addition to our financial contribution, Two members of our staff are actively involved with Habitat for Humanity on a regular basis. Janice works at the East King County office and on build sites in the area. Her daughter, Hilary, (also the newest member of our staff here at Trophies2Go), volunteers with the Wilfrid Laurier University chapter, where she goes to school in Waterloo, Ontario.
We applaud Janice and Hilary’s volunteerism and will strive to find ways over the next few months to make an impact with a larger group effort.
Here is more information about Habitat for Humanity:
Habitat for Humanity is a faith-based organization that makes comfortable living available to families in need at manageable rates. Contrary to popular belief, Habitat for Humanity does not simply give away houses. Instead, the recipient is required to put in 500 hours of work on the site and can then purchase the house at a lowered rate with 0% interest on loans. For many, this makes a world of difference.
Though Habitat is a faith-based organization, not all volunteers are Christian, or do the recipients of houses have to be Christian in order to be eligible. Many schools and universities have their own chapters and volunteers can choose to donate their time over spring break to travel with their chapter to an area in special need of help in what’s called the Collegiate Challenge.
Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has since built over 200,000 houses and supplied as many families with a comfortable means of living. Since the East King County chapter’s creation in 1988, 72 houses have been built across Bellevue, Carnation, Redmond, Snoqualmie, Kirkland, Newcastle, Sammamish and Issaquah.

Never heard of Pediatric Interim Care Center (PICC)? Here is a link and a bit about them. This is a charity that needs our help today!

The pioneering program also facilitates visitation for families, provides caregiver training, follows the babies after they leave, and offers a range of community outreach and education services. PICC is in Kent, Washington, 20 miles southeast of Seattle and is the only 24-hour care center serving drug-exposed infants throughout Washington State.

For the past 8 years, we have quietly supported many organizations through in-kind sponsorships, auction donations, cash donations and product discounts.
We have recently launched a program called “Awards for a Cause”. The items that we feature in this section will have a donation amount attached to them. For each item we sell, we will make a donation to the corresponding charity assigned to that product.
Depending on the urgency of the cause we support, we may choose to assign all of the ‘Awards for a Cause’ items to a single charity. We hope to continue to give back to the community and various organizations through your support.
Please visit our ‘Awards for a Cause’ section before your next purchase.

Kent, Alan, Leonard, Jen, Ana. Heard of these people before? If you are in the Seattle area, my bet is yes. For those out of the area, they are the morning crew of one of Seattle’s most popular radio stations, STAR 101.5. Creativity and humor compliment the music they play, yet more importantly, they provide their listening audience a sense of involvement and community.
They have a program that highlights Trophies2go.com’s vision as a company - to be the national leader of meaningful recognition. This program provides meaningful recognition by acknowledging excellence in teaching. It has many other positive benefits as well.
Each fall and spring for many years, STAR 101.5 embarks on a program called ‘Teacher of the Week’. The primary purpose is to give praise to the teacher by recognizing their extra efforts. They do so by awarding the teacher with a cash award, a commemorative plaque, a class party and a ton of publicity.
This program is far more important than just celebrating the teacher’s accomplishments. In recognizing the teacher, it shows the students and faculty what it means to achieve. It shows how hard work, dedication and caring really do make a difference. It raises the bar of excellence so each student knows they can go beyond what is normal and expected. Even though the long-term implications of this role modeling would be difficult to measure, there is no doubt that it is an extremely positive program for the students. The program has some other benefits as well. The sponsors of the program get recognized through radio and offline advertising and also are given a platform to spread their message. The message that is portrayed to the students is that of the importance of health and personal well-being. Some of the current and previous sponsors include: Applebee’s, Darigold, Dairy Farmers of Washington, Public Health of City of Seattle/King County, Delta Dental, Verity Credit Union, and the Museum of Flight. Finally, the last beneficiary of the program is the station itself. Although not the main intent of the program, the station benefits include; larger listening audience, appearance they are doing a ton for the community, a sense of engagement with its listening audience, and creating a new generation of listeners.
The impact of this program to the teachers, students, sponsors and radio station is enormous. It is a fine example of how a well thought out recognition program should be implemented. My hat is off to STAR 101.5 for their ongoing commitment! Great Job!
